CAST's 25th Anniversary

We recently had the pleasure of celebrating CAST’s twenty-fifth year in operation. We've thrived this long as many other IP firms have come and gone through a commitment to making silicon IP both truly reusable and extremely cost-effective. 

Our product line has certainly evolved over the past twenty-five years. Today we offer a range of standards-based IP fundamental to most system designs, and also several advanced solutions that are increasingly critical to particular application areas. This twenty-fifth anniversary newsletter takes a brief look at some of our product stand-outs.

We’ve run the CAN Controller through more sanctioned plugfests than our competitors, have a large base of customer installations, and have an experienced sales and engineering team ready to help you quickly and successfully build CAN FD based automotive and industrial systems.


We’re moving similarly on the next promising technology, Automotive Ethernet. The Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) subsystem we offer combines a timing synchronizer, traffic shaper, and low-latency Ethernet MAC to enable safe, reliable, prioritized communication in data-heavy automotive and industrial control systems.

Most significant to potential users: this TSN IP is already reliable and ready to run, having successfully undergone multiple IIC and LNI 4.0 industry plugfests, and with a real-world customer base that’s growing fast. (See more below).
 

Fast, Lightweight Networking

networking IP iconToday’s challenge of nearly every electronic product needing to be connected is well met by the Network Stacks we offer. In particular, our 40 Gbit UDPIP Stack has proven to be a fast and lean alternative to TCP/IP for scores of CAST customers doing IoT and other applications where simpler and much quicker networking is preferred over TCP/IP.

TIME SENSITIVE NETWORKING NEWS

IIC plugfest for TSN EthernetThe TSN Ethernet Subsystem for Automotive and Industrial Applications we announced several months ago has now been exercised and tested through multiple plugfests that emulate the real world.

In July and August, engineers from CAST's development partner Fraunhofer IPMS ran the end point subsystem with nodes from multiple other vendors at the IIC and LNI 4.0 Plugfests in Germany.

We found that our design performed extremely well and is definitely market-ready, while also gaining insights that will help our customers have even smoother TSN deployment experiences," said Frank Deicke,
business unit manager for Wireless Microsystems at Fraunhofer IPMS.

IIC & LNI4.0 logosTesting continued recently, with the TSN Subsystem undergoing October IIC and TSN 4.0 plugfests, and joining the demo walls of both groups at the November SPS IPC Drives show in Nuremberg.

For CAST customers, all this real world like testing means that even though Ethernet with TSN for automotive and industrial buses is an emerging technology, the IP available from CAST is already proven to be robust and reliable.
