NewsCAST Releases Standard Component Library for VHDL
High-Performance, High-Value Models Ease System-Level Modeling and Board Simulation; Major Distributors Signed for U.S. and Asia
Pomona, New York, November 14, 1994 New electronic design automation (EDA) provider CAST, Inc. today announced the availability of a comprehensive library of models for system designers using the VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL). CAST also announced the signing of distributors for this library in the United States, Can ada, and Asia.
The new Standard Component VHDL Library (SCV L (TM) ) offers high-level VHDL models of over 3,000 devices, including common memory elements and a variety of standard parts. The models are highly accurate and have sophisticated features such as tim ing back-annotation and load-dependent delay calculations. An innovative maintenance program provides a steady stream of additions and enhancements, and gives customers the ability to specify additional models to be contained in later releases.
The EDA industry has two major problems with its library supply: cost and availability, said CAST president Chin-Yeh Chi. We re changing that with products like SCVL, which for the first time delivers VHDL models with quality, accuracy, and flexibility at a price every designer can afford.
SCVL is available today for both personal computer (PC) and Unix workstation applications. Pricing starts at $995.
Major Distributors Signed
SCVL is being sold both directly by CAST and through qualified distributors. Two U.S. distributors have already been signed:
- Topdown Design Solutions, Inc., Nashua, New Hampshire, will distribute
SCVL to users of Model Technology s VHDL simulator throughout the United
States, (except for California, Washington, and Oregon) and in Canada.
- AVCOM EDA, Los Alamitos, California, will distribute SCVL to users of Model Technology s VHDL simulator in California.
"Designers are flocking to VHDL," said Art Pisani, president of Topdown," But the lack of cost-effective models has made it difficult to really work at the system level. We re pleased to offer our customers a modeling package with the breadth and quality of SCVL, backed by the support of the experienced people at CAST."
Dennis Jeffers, vice president of sales for AVCOM, said, "One of the biggest hurdles to the success of our customers adopting VHDL has been the lack of modeling support. SCVL helps eliminate this hurdle, offering our customers an excellent set of standard models with both the quality they demand and the affordability they need."
Distributors in Asia have also been signed:
- Access Technology Co., Ltd., Taipei, Taiwan will distribute SCVL to
Model Technology users in Taiwan.
- Maojet Technology Corp., Taipei, Taiwan, will distribute SCVL to Viewlogic
users in Taiwan.
- Mentor Design Automation Ltd., Hong Kong, will distribute SCVL to
Mentor Graphics and Model Technology users in Hong Kong and Southern
China.
Additional distributors are being recruited for markets around the world.
More About SCVL
SCVL s 3000-plus device models include memory elements such as RAMs and ROMs and selected components from the popular 54/74 standard parts series.
SCVL is designed for high-performance simulation of large systems.
The models use high-level functions for rapid execution, and they offer features such as the disabling of violation checks and dynamic memory allocation for optimal performance.
SCVL models incorporate accurate and sophisticated timing features, including:
- Specification of input wire delays and output load delays to enable timing back-annotation for more realistic system simulation.
- Automatic checking for setup, hold times and pulse width violations
with optional X generation for unknown values to facilitate design verification.
- Built-in values for minimum, typical, and maximum timing parameters to support system quality assurance and worst-case timing analysis.
SCVL is shipping today with support for popular VHDL simulators on PCs and Unix workstations. US prices are $995 for PCs, $2,995 for workstations. Special purchase programs are available for OEM and university sales.
