CAST and Digital Blocks Announce C6845 CRT Controller Synthesizable VHDL Core

C6845 has been discontinued.

POMONA, NEW YORK -- June 8, 1998 -- Intellectual property (IP) provider CAST, Inc. and development partner Digital Blocks today announce a new synthesizable VHDL CAST core: the C6845 CRT Controller for raster-scan CRT displays. This fully synchronous VHDL core is compatible with Motorola's MC6845 CRT Controller.

For embedded system designers with character and bit-mapped graphics CRT display requirements, the C6845 offers improved product time-to-market, lower product development costs, and reduced risk. For alphanumeric display applications, the C6845 synthesizes into Altera and Xilinx FPGAs with on-chip character clock performance of 49 MHz. For bit-mapped graphics display applications, the C6845 can work with off-chip pixel clocks of much higher rates (up to 441 MHz for character display formats of 80 x 24 and character maps of 99 pixels).

The C6845 targets the display needs of a variety of markets, including computer terminals, peripherals, communications, transportation, business equipment, retail equipment, industrial control, instrumentation, and military products. The core comes complete with test bench, golden test vectors, synthesis script, and documentation.

"The C6845 core is a great, IP-based design solution ready for designers looking to speed up the development of almost any application using CRTs," said Newton Abdalla, president of CAST. "We're pleased to be offering this high-quality, high-value core with our development partner Digital Blocks."

The C6845 will be available in July 1998. A data sheet is available immediately from CAST's web site at www.cast-inc.com. Also listed on the web site is a directory of CAST's worldwide local distributors.
